A medical miracle

Tilda was sick last week – not with the perpetual winter cold, but with a fever that came in the evenings and went away during the day. On the second night I was sure she had pneumonia because she was breathing so rapidly, but the State of Victoria’s Nurse On Call service told me that her pink lips and pink fingernails were a good sign.
We went to the doctor on Thursday, who confirmed that her chest and ears were clear, and suggested that a urinary tract infection might be the cause of the fever, although it was probably just a virus. She handed me a specimen bottle so that Tilda could provide a urine sample. Well, there was absolutely no way that was going to happen – not at the doctor’s office, not at home, not in a larger container, not ever. On Friday morning I told her that she would have to try if she had one more night of fever, so that night she didn’t have a fever.
When we were at the doctor I asked about Tilda’s snoring, which had become progressively more ridiculous over the last few months – more frequent, very loud, with lots of struggling for breath. She said that Tilda’s tonsils were big, and that her adenoids were probably big, and that it was likely that the rest of her would grow faster than her tonsils and adenoids and it would eventually improve.
Tilda didn’t snore that night, and hasn’t since. Long may it last.
