School fair

Today we went to the fair at Tilda’s school. Tilda had a sleepover at Elena’s last night, woke up before 6, and went to Bethan’s early birthday party this morning. I knew she would want to stay at the fair until the fireworks in the evening, so in an attempt to conserve some energy we didn’t head over until after 3.
The girls all had wristbands for unlimited rides, so that kept them busy until the rides closed up at 6.
It was very hot in the sun. Tilda was sent off to get her face painted while I sat in the shade with a cold drink.
There was a band playing, and a kindergarten mosh pit.
Tilda and the other girls worked hard on their cartwheels, and enjoyed the gymnastic club’s displays.
(Tilda is smelling her hands quite a bit these days – I think it started when she noticed the metallic smell from the monkey bars. It’s weird.)
That’s artificial grass that they’re on. Since grass can’t be watered, the playing field is mostly hard packed dirt. I was just thinking today that I might need to buy more school uniform items than I’d planned, just because of how dirty she’s going to get.
I went to look at the stalls towards the end of the day, when they started offering clothes at $2 a bag. I did very well for my $2.
The night ended at 8:45 with lots more fireworks than I was expecting for a school fair. Tilda covered her ears but decided they weren’t too loud.
Unfortunately we had to walk home afterwards, but I only had to carry Tilda the last half-block.
