In the evening

With neither a house nor a car that is particularly well cooled in summer, I tend to overreact when it gets hot outside and refuse to do anything all afternoon. (Morning activities are obviously irrelevant!) Fortunately there is the compensation of lovely warm evenings. Tonight we met with Yvonne and the girls for a supper picnic at the park, with freezies for dessert.
It’s not a very big playground that we go to, but they seem to be able to amuse themselves there for hours. We left as it was getting dark. When we got home, the kids across the street were out scootering, so Tilda begged to be allowed to scoot along the sidewalk too. I decided that it was as good a time as any to put up Christmas lights. I’ve never actually done that in the dark before, but it makes light distribution easier. Fortunately I’m still not doing anything more complicated than draping.
Tilda ended up playing for quite a while with Daniel, who seems to be about 3, and a flashlight. Daniel just calls Tilda “Girl”.
Daniel’s father and I could see no alternative but to introduce ourselves and talk for the first time in the 2 years we’ve lived here. I eventually got Tilda inside at almost 10.
