Student of the week

I had my first parent-teacher interview of the year this week, and was relieved to confirm that Tilda enjoys school. She’s not having any problems – she’s a delight, obviously! – but Sue has taken on the task of convincing Tilda to hold her pencil properly. Not something I would have the courage to try.
Yesterday the preps gave their first performance at assembly. Tilda wanted to keep it a surprise, and burst into tears on more than one occasion when it seemed that I might know what was going on. She did tell me that she had to wear rainbow-coloured clothes. I encouraged her to just pick colourful clothes, but stripes seemed to be very important to her.
I had secretly been told that Tilda would be Student of the Week this week, so that I’d know to show up at assembly with my camera. Given the multitude of ways in which Tilda is fabulous, I thought it was funny that she received an award for her persistence with the pencil grip.

After assembly I headed into Fitzroy to have breakfast, get my hair cut, and visit Sanjot at her new job. It was all lovely until I returned to the car and the quarter-tank of fuel just wasn’t getting to the fuel pump. I had intended to ensure that I parked facing uphill, but I guess I forgot. I got going again after a 38-degree trudge to the petrol station and back.
